THE PUBLIC IS NOT SATISFIED

Semih Turan, President of Bulgu Research, makes the following assessment: “When we ask the public whether such operations are political or legal, the view that these operations are political has been dominant for a very long time. When looking at the narrative as a whole, this is the case; however, when we evaluate each operation individually, we encounter different results. Although there is a very widespread belief that the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) case is political, the perspective on the situation in Uşak Municipality has been very different. Reactions given to different situations can also vary significantly.”

“The government’s operations against the opposition have not been able to generate social consent, what we call the collective conscience. We can say that the majority of the public believes these operations are unjust. We observe that there is a demand for an early election of over 60 per cent among the public, and a segment close to this ratio wants a change of government. When we speak with undecided voters, we receive responses indicating that a vast majority will take a side in favour of the opposition during the election period.”
